Orion Joins Elgin O’Hare DCM
Designated a “Project of National and Regional Significance” by federal transportation legislation.
Orion has been selected as a subconsultant to the DCM team, led by Jacob’s Engineering Group, for the $3.4 billion Elgin O’Hare Western Access Project (EOWA), which encompasses 17 miles of new roads and 15 new interchange builds or improvements. The Elgin O’Hare Advisory council created an initiative in 2011 to revitalize and expand the existing I-390, I-90, and I-294 routes, some of the most heavily trafficked expressways in the Northwest suburbs. The EOWA project addresses the unique travel challenges in the area, creates job opportunities and economic development, provides western access to O’Hare International Airport, and reduces congestion.
The project funding is supported by local governments and the Illinois Tollway, which alone has allotted $3.1 billion towards the $3.4 billion required to complete the project by the year 2025. Drivers are expected to save more than $145 million in time and fuel annually by the year 2040, while reaping the benefits of reduced congestion and improved roadway infrastructure.
Orion’s staff will provide project management services as a subconsultant to the DCM team for EOWA Corridor Illinois Route 390/I-490 design. The scope of work includes management of the design, survey, geotechnical, land acquisition, and utility contracts; the procurement of IDOT, local agency, airport, and railway permits; coordination of construction engineering and utilities; compliance with corridor guidelines and Phase II Engineering services on a task order basis.
Orion will focus primarily on design reviews, document management, coordination between entities, and guideline compliance and project management of DSE/DUR/SUR/EUR tasks.
