The Director of Site/Civil Engineering is in direct control of the Site/Civil engineering practice and exercises direct or indirect supervision of personnel assigned for projects within the site/civil engineering practice and technical matters. The Director is responsible for delivering technical excellence for projects from bid to completion, including being on time and within budget on project deliverables. The Director provides project management and technical oversight on projects. The Director develops strong working relationships with agencies, municipalities, and other consulting firms. This position has technical excellence, management, and business development responsibilities for the division. The position includes a significant contribution to strategic planning and building the site/civil practice throughout the region.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Technical and leader for the group in providing senior-level quality control reviews for projects concerning:
    • Ability to comply with safety policies and practices and OSHA standards.
    • Routinely manage several projects concurrently.
    • Develop engineering reports, specifications, and cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages.
    • Lead/participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost, and scheduling performance.
    • Identify schedule and cost variances and develop and implement recommendations for corrective action.
    • Design and detail full construction documents and specifications.
    • Coordinate with all project stakeholders on complex projects during design, documentation, and construction.
    • Provide technical direction and development on the scope of engineering work, detailed and ongoing schedule input, man-hour requirements, and budgets for the assigned project elements.
  • Deliver quality projects on time, within budget, and to the client’s satisfaction.
  • Team leads a high-performing engineering team by providing guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback to team members to enhance their skills and achieve departmental goals.
  • Hit chargeability goals established for the group.
  • Responsible for the profitability of their group.
  • Use effective oral and written communication skills to effectively assist with project, safety, and scheduling during construction progress meetings with client(s) and assist with proposals.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • 10+ years of experience serving site/civil agency clients involving planning, consulting, design, and construction services for various projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in successful project management, client interaction, and staff development.
  • Business development and marketing experience including writing proposals, scopes of work, and budgets for projected work.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Director of Transportation Engineering, a Transportation Project Engineer will assist in various tasks including plan preparation, quantity calculations, geometric design, pavement marking/signing, drainage design, traffic studies, traffic signal design, public involvement, report writing, specifications, cost estimates, roadway lighting, and other related tasks. QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field with emphasis on highway design, traffic and transportation.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Licensure for the State of Illinois required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical.
  • 7+ years progressively responsible experience as a Transportation Engineer or similar.

  • Must have experience with MicroStation design.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Project Engineer – Site Civil will manage the planning, design, permitting, and preparation of specifications, for a variety of land development and redevelopment projects. The individual may also be called on to work closely with or manage multi-disciplinary teams on projects. Activities will vary but could include:

  • Provide expertise in the preparation of inventory assessments, analyses, and reports, development of detailed site and grading plans, erosion and sediment control plans, stormwater management design, water and wastewater design, construction detailing and specifications.
  • Perform hydrologic/hydraulic analysis and design, SWPPP, and water quality compliance.
  • Research code requirements.
  • Research design options and document findings.
  • Prepare environmental impact and other administrative reports required for project permits.
  • Provide design solutions for projects within budget and time schedules, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, accepted engineering practices, and client standards.
  • Ensure accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of others on projects to ensure proper and timely execution.
  • QA/QC work by others to ensure completeness and accuracy of team deliverables.
  • Inform corporate management of workload and any changes in the project schedule, scope, or additional services.
  • Establish local connections with government officials, developers, architects, business and manufacturing clients, or other land development arenas.
  • Assist or participate in the preparation of project proposals and other business development efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET Accredited Engineering Program.

  • Minimum 7+ years of progressively responsible experience and a proven track record of successful Illinois Site Civil Engineering experiences.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with MWRD permitting policies, site/utility plan preparation, and construction administration.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Autodesk Civil 3D design software.
